Tinubu endorses establishment of new federal universities in Osun, Ekiti
Two new federal universities have been established by measures that President Bola Tinubu has approved.
The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti are the establishments.
Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele made the news after the two bills were signed Thursday at the State House in Abuja.
In 2023 and 2024, Bamidele sponsored two laws that were enacted by the Senate before receiving House of Representatives concurrence and ultimately being approved by the president.
In a statement released on Thursday, titled “NASS Secures Presidential Assent to Federal Universities in Ekiti, Osun”, issued by the Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, Office of the Senate Leader, Bamidele emphasised the critical role of the universities in national development.
“These universities will bridge the knowledge gap in science, technology, and innovation, promote environmental sustainability and climate action, and enhance agricultural innovation and food security in Nigeria,” he stated.
In the administration's endeavours to address the issues of food insecurity and climate change, he characterised the presidential assent as a "defining and significant milestone."
