SYMPTOMS OF TOMATO FEVER
Tomato fever has some symptoms similar to chikungunya, such as high fever, body aches, joint swelling, and fatigue. However, infected children also develop rashes and skin irritation, which causes further blisters on parts of the body.
Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, discolouration of hands, knees, and buttocks are some other symptoms.
On the other hand, the exact cause of the disease is not yet known, and health authorities are still investigating the main causes of tomato fever.
Tomato flu in Kerala
According to local media reports, more than 80 children have contracted tomato flu in Kerala's Kollam. Cases have also been reported from Aryankavu, Anchal and Neduvathur in the southern state. All confirmed cases are children under the age of five.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR TOMATO FEVER
Firstly, attention should be paid to cleanliness and hygiene. Adequate hydration is also recommended.
Close contact with the infected person must be avoided to prevent the spread of the disease.
Patients are advised to get adequate rest to avoid the long-lasting effects of the fever.
