Train crushes army sergeant to death in Lagos
On Wednesday, a passenger train at the railway crossing in the PWD neighbourhood of Ikeja, Lagos, struck and killed a sergeant in the Nigerian Army.
When it finally struck the soldier who had tried to deftly run across the rail line on his bike, the train was reportedly travelling from Ibadan to Iddo in Lagos.
The tragedy on Wednesday occurs just three months after a passenger train collided with a staff bus carrying employees and their families from the Lagos State government at the same location.
The sad incident, which took place on March 9, 2023, in the morning, resulted in six fatalities and over 80 injuries among the passengers.
Sergeant Jidean Samson, the deceased soldier, was a member of the 9 Brigade in Lagos until his death.
According to a military source, the event happened at the PDW railway crossing, and the Nigerian Army's 9th Brigade has since been informed of the sergeant's passing.
The military authority transferred the body to the Military Hospital mortuary in Yaba, Lagos, according to the source, who did not want his identity to be published since he was not authorized to talk.
Lt. Col. Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the deputy director of public relations for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army in command of Lagos and Ogun State, did not return his calls.
