Tribunal affirms Usman Ododo as Kogi State governor
Usman Ododo was formally confirmed as the governor of Kogi State on Monday by the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal denied Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) appeal while maintaining the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, were found to have failed to substantiate their claims against the respondents, according to the ruling of the three-member panel presided over by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu.
According to Birnin-Kudu, the election was carried out mostly in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The Kogi governorship election was held on November 11, 2023, and Ododo, the APC candidate, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With 446,237 votes, Ododo defeated both Ajaka (259,052 votes) and Dino Melaye (46,362 votes) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On January 27, 2024, Ododo took the oath of office. He was the immediate prior governor Yahaya Bello's ally and the former Auditor General of Kogi State.
