Troops kill scores of bandits, rescue five kidnap victims

The Joint Task Force Northwest's Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) troops have proceeded to achieve more victories, including the release of five hostages, the destruction of numerous armed bandits, and the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

In a recent occurrence, Zamfara State's Sector 1 OPHD troops responded to a distress call regarding kidnapping and robbery by armed bandits along the Tsafe-Gusau highway between the villages of Tazame and Tabbani in the Bungudu LGA.

As soon as the troops arrived, they engaged the bandits in a gunfight. However, the forces forced the Bandits to run and abandoned the abducted victims thanks to their superior weaponry and tactical skills.

All of the passengers and commuter victims were found to be unharmed.

Similar to this, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garin Hausawa troops mobilised to the village after receiving information that numerous armed bandits had been spotted in Madobiya village in Danko- Wasagu LGA of Kebbi state. As a result of the troops' aggressive stance, the armed bandits abandoned the kidnap victims and fled.

Three kidnapped victims, however, were freed and returned to their families.

In a related development, armed bandits were encountered by Special Forces troops stationed in Sokoto state while on a routine patrol along the Gundumi and Marnona road. Following the encounter, one armed bandit was neutralised while the others fled after being shot.

One AK-47 rifle and one AK-47 magazine filled with 7.62 special ammunition were among the items found at the scene.

Additionally, on August 6, 2023, Sector 3 troops in Sokoto state received information about a bandit invasion into Manu village while on a battle patrol. The forces immediately proceeded to the settlement.

The armed bandits opened a lot of fire when they got to Mani village to frighten the soldiers.

However, the valiant soldiers resisted and opened fire on the bandits, forcing them to flee in disorder. Two motorcycles, a mobile phone, blankets, and other engineering supplies were recovered from the bandits.
