Truck accident kills pedestrian in Lagos
When a truck tragically crushed an unnamed person to death at the Iyana-Ishasi U-turn, within Mile 2, Lagos State, on Tuesday, chaos broke out.
A comparable catastrophe occurred at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge, less than twenty-four hours before to this incident. In that instance, a collision between two vehicles resulted in the death of a pedestrian and the hospitalisation of five others.
Mr. John Adebiyi, an eyewitness, reported that the most recent accident, which involved a fully loaded Howo tipper with an unidentified registration number, happened at around 11 a.m.
Criminals tried to take advantage of the circumstance by threatening to burn the truck. However, additional pandemonium was prevented by the prompt action of security officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Nigeria Police.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the general manager of LASTMA, disclosed that the truck experienced a catastrophic brake failure while travelling at a high speed through traffic. A total loss of control resulted from this.
“The out-of-control vehicle tragically veered off its path and struck an innocent pedestrian walking along the roadside, causing an instantaneous fatality,” Bakare-Oki stated.
While police from the Ishasi Police Division provided security reinforcement for the continuing rescue operation, he praised the joint efforts of FRSC and LASTMA personnel, who handled the situation well.
