Truck accident leaves three dead in Lagos
At least three persons, including two students, lost their lives in two separate accidents in Lagos on Monday, causing tragedy.
The first event happened at the Ayeyoro traffic light in Epe.
A vehicle with a brake failure struck a stalled Toyota Camry and a commercial tricycle before swerving off the road and colliding with the Ayetoro Market Complex.
The tricycle driver and two pupils from Manpower Technical School, Epe, tragically died in the crash. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reports that the collision happened near Ayeyoro at around noon.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, attested that the vehicle (DCG-TM-028) was descending from Ita-Opo when the brakes failed and it lost control. Before smashing into the market complex, the truck struck the Toyota Camry that was stopped at the traffic light and the tricycle (Marwa AGL 442 QC).
To protect the area, LASTMA personnel hurried to the scene with help from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Later, the deceased's bodies were moved to the mortuary at Epe General Hospital. In order to relieve traffic congestion and guarantee the safety of other road users, Bakare-Oki added that attempts were undertaken to clear the wreckage, including removing the truck.
