Truck crushes man to death in Lagos

On Friday, May 5, a middle-aged man who has not been named died tragically after being run over by a moving truck on the Isheri-Igando Road in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to PUNCH, the deceased victim had just returned from a trip when the tragedy happened. It happened around 7 p.m.

An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, claimed that he was attempting to cross the road in the Diamond Estate neighbourhood of the community after making a purchase when the incident occurred.

The source said, “The man had just returned from a trip and was about to go into the estate where he lived when he asked his driver to stop.

“The driver parked close to the entrance of the estate gate while the man stepped out to purchase some items opposite the estate. After making the purchase, he crossed the first lane and stood on the median. By the time he was about to cross to the other side of the road, a vehicle knocked him down. It was after this that a truck coming from behind ran over him.”

The man, who was described as wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, is believed to have passed away there and then as the truck raced away.

“The driver was still in the car waiting for him to return. It was when he discovered that he had taken a longer time than usual that he stepped out and saw people gathered around the spot. That was when he knew it was his employer’s corpse. His corpse was later taken to the mortuary,” the source added.

According to the eyewitness, the deceased victim had just returned from the United States, where his children were also residents.

“He returned from the United States not quite long to join his wife who lives in the estate. He was also said to be preparing for a trip to Abuja the following day for an appointment,” he added.

PUNCH According to Metro, on Sunday, May 7, a sport utility vehicle smashed a tricycle carrying a family of four down the same road, killing a 10-year-old kid.

It was discovered that the driver of the SUV with the license plate KTU-536-AL was travelling at full speed toward the Igando part of the neighbourhood when he lost control.

He then skidded across the centre line and struck two buses and a tricycle that were coming the other way.

The teenager passed away instantly on the tricycle, but the commercial vehicles were only slightly damaged.

Other passengers were hurt and were taken urgently to a nearby hospital.
