Tunde Onakoya breaks world record for longest chess marathon

After beating the previous record of 61 hours, Nigerian chess master and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Tunde Onakoya, broke the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.

Onakoya crossed the 62-hour barrier on Sunday alongside US chess master Shawn Martinez, and he now hopes to reach the record in an even more ambitious 70 hours.

“For all the dreamers! We’ve officially broken the record!” Onakoya announced on X.com on Sunday.

After reaching the 50-hour milestone, Onakoya emphasised that the marathon's objective is to not only set a new record but also to garner support and publicity for the establishment of Nigeria's largest free school for homeless children.
