Twenty chairmanship aspirants fail drug test in Kano
Twenty Kano State candidates for chairmanship have tested positive for numerous substances during the screening process for the upcoming local government elections, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The candidates put out by the state's ruling NNPP tested positive for drugs such opiates, hemp benzodiazepines, and nicotine, according to NDLEA Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad.
Although no female candidate had tested positive thus far, Mr. Ahmad stated that more candidates were anticipated to be tested before to the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission's (KANSIEC) final verification. The screening procedure was still underway.
According to Daily Trust, KANSIEC has set the date of the elections for October 26, 2024, with 484 council seats and 44 chairmanships up for grabs.
