Two EKEDC staff electrocuted in Lagos

The electrocution of two employees of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in Lagos State was verified by the police command in that state on Sunday.

The incident happened on Lagos Island in the Obalande neighbourhood.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, verified the incident to Newsmen.

According to Hundeyin, another employee of the EKEDC from Lagos Island reported the case to the Lion Building Division of the command on Saturday at around 5.55 p.m.

He said that the EKEDC employee claimed that on Saturday, one of his coworkers, whom he only gave the name Umaru, was allegedly electrocuted while excavating to find a defective transformer cable at the P&T Obalende location.

“In the process, another colleague named Sunday Awaruwa, 48 years old, who tried to rescue the victim was also electrocuted.

“Based on the report, detectives visited and photographed the scene, rescued the victims and rushed them to the Lagos Island General Hospital,  where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Their remains were deposited at the  IDH Morgue, Yaba for autopsy. Meanwhile, an investigation is in progress,” he said.
