UK court postpones hearing on former minister Deizani's case to 2025
The case involving Nigeria's former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and allegations of £100,000 in bribery was postponed until November 2025 by the Westminster Magistrates Court in the United Kingdom on Monday.
On Monday, October 2, 2023, Alison-Madueke made her court appearance at Westminster Magistrates Court. She had been charged with bribery offences totaling £100,000 after a National Crime Agency investigation.
Nevertheless, District Judge Michael Snow granted her bail and placed additional conditions on her after determining that she posed a flight risk.
Between 2010 and 2015, the sixty-three-year-old, who also held the position of president of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, played a significant role in the Nigerian government.
When she served as Minister for Petroleum Resources, the NCA believes she took bribes in exchange for giving multimillion-pound contracts for oil and gas.
As part of the ongoing investigation, assets connected to the alleged offences worth millions of pounds have already been frozen.
Additionally, in March of this year, the NCA gave the US Department of Justice evidence that allowed them to seize $53.1 million in assets connected to Alison-Madueke's alleged corruption.
She is said to have profited from using several London properties, chauffeur-driven cars, private jet travel, at least £100,000 in cash, and luxurious vacations for her family.
