Ukrainian FA asks FIFA to exclude Iran from World Cup
The Ukrainian FA has urged FIFA to ban Iran from competing in the Qatar-hosted World Cup in 2022.
This information was made public in a statement issued on Monday by the Ukrainian FA executive committee.
Later this month, the FIFA World Cup 2022 will begin in Qatar.
Iran is charged with giving Russia weaponry to aid in their continuing invasion of Ukraine.
The nation of Western Asia is also charged with violating FIFA's rules on human rights and the elimination of prejudice, articles 3 and 4.
“Taking into account the media information about the systemic manifestations of human rights violations in Iran which could violate the principles and norms of the FIFA charter.
"Taking into account the UN security council resolution 22.31 regarding the imposition of sanctions on Iran and the alleged involvement of Iran in the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, we appeal to FIFA with a proposal to consider excluding the Iranian national team from the 2022 FIFA World Cup,†the statement from the Ukrainian FA read.
This request comes only days after Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin demanded that Iran be replaced by Ukraine in this year's tournament in place of Iran.
The Russian military used "kamikaze" drones built in Iran to attack the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv earlier in September.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said that seven of these drones had been shot down, but the United States of America alleged that Iran had stationed military personnel on the Crimean peninsula that Russia has annexed.
Russia and Ukraine have been at war since February of this year.
As of today, the war has already resulted in a number of casualties.
