Unions clash over ticket sales in Ogun state

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Ogun State Parks and Garages Management Board (OGSPAM) are about to clash in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun States.

According to DAILY POST, there are three transport unions in the state that collect from drivers on behalf of the government. In addition to RTEAN and NURTW, the Road Transport Workers Employees and Owners Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) is also in charge of collecting money for the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government established OGSPAM following the suspension of NURTW in the state in 2021; the suspension was lifted in October 2023.

Popular NURTW leader Akeem Abodunrin, also referred to as Iyeru, was appointed chairman of OGSPAM to handle government union ticket sales in the NURTW's absence.

In an effort to keep the peace between the unions, early in March, Engineer Gbenga Dairo, the Commissioner for Transportation, gave both NURTW and OGSPAM instructions to alternate in selling government tickets.

According to this arrangement, RTEAN will sell tickets for a period of two weeks, and OGSPAM and NURTW will sell tickets for a period of one week each.
