US House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, set to visit Taiwan
In spite of Chinese threats, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is scheduled to visit Taiwan on Tuesday night, according to Bloomberg.
Any visit by Pelosi that may potentially cause a crisis between the two largest economies in the world will be met with a vague military response, according to China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory.
Before Pelosi arrived, Taiwan was subject to cyberattacks.
With her visit, Pelosi would become the nation's highest-ranking politician to travel to the island in the previous 25 years.
The island's military was ready to send "necessary armed forces according to the danger," according to a statement from Taiwan's Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
The statement said, "The military is determined, confident, and capable of safeguarding national security."
