US temporarily closes Abuja Embassy, Consulate General in Lagos

In honour of Presidents' Day, the United States has stated that it will close its Consulate General in Lagos and its Embassy in Abuja on Monday, February 17, 2025. On Sunday, the notification was posted on its X handle.

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, regular operations will resume, according to the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 17, 2025, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will resume normal operations on Tuesday, February 18, 2025,” the statement read.

Every year on the third Monday in February, the United States observes Presidents' Day as a federal holiday.

Originally commemorating the birthday of the country's first president, George Washington, it has now expanded to recognise all American presidents.
