Usman Ododo sworn in as Kogi governor
Usman Ododo, the victor of the Kogi State governor's race in 2023, has taken the oath of office.
Following his victory on November 11, 2023, Ododo, a member of the All Progressives Congress, took the oath of office as the state governor on Saturday in Lokoja, the state capital.
Yahaya Bello, whose second term in office ended, was replaced as governor by the newcomer.
Ododo takes over as the state's fifth Executive Governor after being sworn in.
Ododo assumed office at precisely 2:30 p.m. overseen by Justice Joseph Majebi, the state chief judge.
Salifu Oyibo, his deputy, also took the oath of office.
With 446,237 votes, Ododo defeated Social Democratic Party candidate Murtala Ajaka, who received 259,052 votes, and Peoples Democratic Party candidate Dino Melaye, who received 46,362 votes.
Speaking soon after the Independent National Electoral Commission granted him a certificate of return, Ododo gave the populace assurances that he would fulfil his campaign pledge to uphold the state's unity while building on Governor Yahaya Bello's excellent accomplishments.
Ododo was grateful to Bello, his predecessor, for guiding him through the process of becoming governor and for promising to keep the state's citizens in the dark.
Bello received a Grand Conference Silver Service Star as a service honour from the newly appointed governor.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC Chairman Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje graced the colourful celebration, which took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre in Lokoja.
