Veritas University suspends students' examination, shuts down academic activities
As the security situation in Abuja and its surroundings has gotten worse, academic activities at VERITAS University, Bwari, Abuja, have been suspended.
Following a foiled attempt at the Nigerian Law School, which is located a few kilometres away, security reports indicated that terrorists could attack and kidnap students at the university owned by the Roman Catholic Church, which is located in Bwari Local Government Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A security threat to the school forced the postponement of the start of the new academic session, which was previously scheduled to begin in September.
Additionally, the 100-level students exam, which was supposed to start this week, has been postponed indefinitely. The test would be "conducted at a date to be announced," the school stated.
Although Veritas University claimed in a statement on Wednesday that academic activities had come to an end and that the school was closing as a result, Vanguard has learned that the development is likely related to a security threat the school and security authorities have received.
"The Management of Veritas University wishes to tell the general public that the University has successfully ended the 2021/2022 academic session," said Evelyn Obekpa, the university's public relations officer, in a succinct statement on Wednesday.
“However, due to the current security tension and the directives of the Minister of the FCT for the closure of schools in Abuja, examinations for our 100-level students shall be conducted at a date to be announced later.â€
"Candidates seeking admission into Veritas University for the 2022/2023 academic session are urged to visit the institution or the university's website - www.veritas.edu.ng to collect admission forms," according to the statement.1 Please transmit any correspondence to the following email addresses.
