"What we have done is for the good of our party"- Tambuwal explains why he stepped down for Atiku

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has explained why he resigned in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Tambuwal withdrew from the race and urged his followers to vote for Atiku. He claimed his decision was a sacrifice for Nigerians and Nigeria as a country. The governor made the statement while addressing a crowd that greeted him at the state government house on Friday, shortly after arriving from Abuja. Tambuwal said: "Thank you to our leaders and respected supporters from across the country for your support and cooperation. I must thank the leaders of our party here at the Sokoto State level and all levels." “What we have done is for the good of our party and the country. I appreciate each of you who has prayed for me and our group. The sacrifice I have made for you is aimed at strengthening our party, our democracy and, by the grace of God, a soft landing of our polity. “This is consistent with the teachings of our leaders and [emulating] the examples they have set for us in the past: that we must continue to make sacrifices for the good of all of us and our country. “I thank the people of Sokoto State and all my supporters across the country for their support. Rest assured we will work tirelessly for our party to win the 2023 general election.”
