WhatsApp unveils new privacy features

WhatsApp is one of the vastly used applications in the world and has become an indispensable communication tool for a large part of the population. As one of the apps with the most users worldwide, it makes sense that every update is measured to the millimetre before it is released. One of these updates has just been released and it concerns data protection (privacy). WhatsApp's latest update has been in testing for several months, but it's finally here.

This update allows us to further personalize our privacy options. For example, you can control who can see your profile picture, decide who can and cannot see when you were last online, and who can or cannot see your status. These new options will surprise many users, but others will already know of their existence since the first tests started in September 2021 and since then the options have been offered to some users. The new system was further expanded in March 2022, although to a new, smaller group of users. WhatsApp's new privacy options are now accessible to all users as long as they can update their application to the latest version. According to WhatsApp's Twitter account, there are other updates as well. "We added some updates to a WhatsApp favourite," they said. "When it comes to group calls, you can now mute others, send messages to specific people, and see a banner when someone joins off-screen."
