Woman gives birth at 62 in Lagos
Mrs. Fummi Akinade, 62, gave birth to a boy in a private hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, following 31 years of marriage without a child. She stated that during her childless years, she maintained a strong faith in God.
Akinade claimed that although she had undergone a number of gynaecological treatments, including three unsuccessful IVF cycles prior to being married in 1992, she was unable to become pregnant.
It was, nevertheless, the fourth successful IVF cycle.
“This is my fourth IVF attempt, but the others were not in this hospital,†Akinade said.
She continued by saying that her spouse had been encouraging and that they both continued to believe that God would grant them a child.
“Even when I felt it was already too late to be possible, God in His infinite mercy made it possible for me in my lifetime. I return all glory to Him, Akinade whose baby was conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) said in an interview.
At 37 weeks, the baby was delivered on Tuesday at StrongTower Hospital and Advanced Fertility Centre, a private medical facility located in Lagos, via caesarian section.
“When someone is looking for fruit of the womb, the person will be moving from one hospital or gynecologist to another, undergoing a series of gynecological investigations and treatments,†she said.
Akinade claimed to have had a deep trust in God during the years she spent trying to conceive.
“Even when I felt it was already too late to be possible, God in His infinite mercy made it possible for me in my lifetime. I return all glory to Him.
“Two major factors that kept motivating me all along are my husband’s support and one particular book that I usually read,†Akinade said.
Akinade counselled hopeful parents to persevere and put their faith in God while obtaining the appropriate medical care.
