Woman on Italy's wanted list arrested in Nigeria
After being on the run since 2010, a lady described as a prominent member of the Nigerian mafia was apprehended.
She was flown back to Rome, Italy, where she will serve a 13-year prison term, from Abuja.
According to Italian police, the convict's offences included operating a prostitution network while being prosecuted in her absence.
Joy Jeff, 48, one of the few females on the most-wanted list in the nation, was apprehended in Nigeria on June 4, 2022.
A 2020 agreement between Nigeria and Italy made it easier for the international warrant to be issued prior to her extradition.
Jeff, according to Ancona police investigators, was a key player in the trafficking of women to the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy.
The victims said how threats and acts of violence drove them into prostitution.
The woman was seen being transported from the Abuja airport to Ciampino airport in Rome in a video provided by the Italian police.
“Africa today is a strategic location when looking for fugitives and fighting organised crime,†said Vittorio Rizzi, an officer responsible for international coordination.
