Xi Jinping secures third term as China's president
The Chinese parliament has approved Xi Jinping for a historic third term as leader of the nation.
The 69-year-old was elected to the historic five-year term during a meeting of parliament on Friday.
The 2,952 National People's Congress (NPC) members in attendance all gave him their unqualified support.
As a result, since the Communist Party of China was founded in 1949, Xi, who took office in 2013, has served as its leader of state for the longest period of time.
The president's office mostly has ceremonial power. The leader of the Communist Party and the Central Military Commission hold real power over the Chinese government (CMC).
Both jobs are presently held by Xi.
In order to strengthen his hold on the nation's politics, he began his second decade in office with a wider reorganization of senior positions in the state council, China's central government, and other organizations.
In the coming days, it is anticipated that the country's premier and other ministries would be named.
Li Qiang, who is rumored to be Xi's number two, is among the loyalists who Xi is anticipated to appoint to the upcoming government.
In other NPC votes, Zhao Leji was elected as the new parliament chair, and Han Zheng was confirmed as the next vice president.
Both guys belonged to Xi's former group of party officials who served on the Politburo Standing Committee.
